Kadoma`s Ward 5 borehole resuscitated

Residents in Kadoma`s Ward 5 are once again able to fetch
water from the borehole that was rendered idle, after a yearlong breakdown of
their main source of communal fresh supply.
The borehole, which was installed some five years ago, had
become an eye sore with residents frowning at it, as they made daunting trips
to and from finding the precious liquid elsewhere.
Philanthropist, Cllr Dr Cosmas Dhaka came to the rescue of a
livid set of residents over the non-functioning borehole who had to bear the
brunt of fetching water far afield. In some cases, they had to part with hard
earned money to pay a US$1 `service fee` for a 20-litre bucket, at homesteads
that are favored with fresh water.
"You have done very well by resuscitating this
borehole. We were getting hopeless as to whether this water source would be
repaired. We were pained by continually forking out money to bring water to our
homes," said one middle aged woman who came to the borehole site while
repair work was in progress.
Ward 11 councilor Dr Dhaka deployed his own resources to
bring the borehole back to life. He engaged a private party to sail through the
life-saving task.
"In Waverly we`re working on improving the settlement
and livelihoods. There`s a need to heed the call when you`re summoned to help.
A little while ago, I was called to assess the state of this borehole to find
if there can be any assistance from my side. I found that I can afford what is
required to bring life to the borehole. Now, we on the ground fulfilling what l
promised. We seeing off the repair works on this borehole. If we manage to
avail water to the people, its nourishing as water is life. I`m happy that the
residents are going to access water and whoever can be served by this gesture
should enjoy the benefits unreservedly," said Cllr Dr Dhaka on site.
One Moffart Mhofu chipped in to thank the selfless councilor
for his kind heart.
"We installed this borehole some time in 2018. It has
been in this broken condition for about a year now. Residents had suggested
that each household contribute cash to repair this borehole. We approached some
people for assistance. It is Cllr Dhaka who responded swiftly. We asked councilor
Cosy if he could help us here.We thank him for his response and putting his
words to deeds," said a visibly elated Mhofu as work progressed.
The borehole also serves locations of Mazai, GB/SQ, and
Parirenyatwa surroundings among others.
Cllr, Dr Dhaka made a commitment to work for the good of the
people to bring development to residents and their habitats.
The availability of fresh, portable, safe readily available
water for domestic use is becoming a nagging challenge in the city in recent
years. Council is saddled with a skewed water supply system that has left many
a resident jaded. An increasing number is resorting to digging wells at their
homesteads while others are hiring bulk freshwater supplies and those who can
afford mount mega water tanks to beat the water blues.
The availability of reliable fresh water helps build healthy
communities, at the same time, fend off diseases.
